This is a relevant topic and an issue of utmost importance considering the complexity of their reality of being part of several minority groups because of their ethnicity, sexual orientation or gender identity and because of the societal bias against behavioral health disorders. This community is often impacted by stigma, prejudice, and discrimination.

Clinical Application of Cultural Elements for Hispanic and Latino Populations
This Manual is designed to teach cultural competence concepts, values, and strategies for engagement and treatment with Hispanics and Latinos with substance use disorders (SUD). The manual introduces a basic understanding of cultural competence and the relationship of culture to SUD; and highlights what research demonstrates: that culturally responsive treatment may strengthen the therapeutic alliance that is necessary to increase adherence to treatment.
A Guide for Conducting Cultural Assessment of Hispanic and Latino Clients
The purpose of this Guide is to assist behavioral health providers who wish to augment and improve their assessment skills related to culture. The Guide can serve as a tool for training new clinicians and assisting experienced clinicians. The Guide provides specific templates and guidance on how to assess acculturation and related stress factors for both adults and adolescent clients and discusses how this level of assessment can be part of the cultural formulation and treatment planning process.
