MID-AMERICA: Mid-America ATTC is providing TA to the Missouri Substance Abuse Professional Credentialing Board (MSAPCB) as a new Recovery Support Specialist credential is developed and promoted in the state. In 2007 Mid-America ATTC sent Scott Breedlove, MSAPCB Director, to a training of trainers on the Mid-America ATTC curriculum, Foundations of Substance Use, Abuse and Dependence. This training provides an introduction to substance abuse and addiction, a look at participant preconceived notions about substance use and abuse, an overview to the neurobiology of addiction and a section on spirituality. It serves as an excellent workshop for persons working in support services in faith communities. The Missouri Credentialing Board has been replicating this training throughout the state for the past year and a half. More recently the Board Director consulted with the Missouri SSA Director and those working with the Access for Recovery project in the state to design the Recovery Support Specialist credential. One of the requirements for this credential is that candidates complete the Mid-America ATTC Foundations course. Mid-America ATTC trained trainers who provide this workshop along with the director of the Credentialing Board and has recently purchased for the Credentialing Board the videos used in the training so they have then in their library. For more information contact Jan Wrolstad at wrolstadj@umkc.edu or 816.482.1150.
