new item MID-ATLANTIC: The Mid-Atlantic would like to introduce two new products that are currently in development and will soon be available. The Mid-Atlantic ATTC has updated the unique training curriculum for addiction professionals entitled Substance Abuse within the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community. The curriculum focuses on issues unique to working with this population as well as treatment approaches. Specific content includes barriers and accessibility to treatment, prevention, the role of the interpreter, self-help groups, sponsorship and national resources when working with substance dependent deaf and hard of hearing individuals. Additionally, ethical considerations regarding clinical treatment, confidentiality, boundaries, dual relationships and self-disclosure are addressed. The class for this curriculum is intended to be a 3-4 hour event and is ideally taught by an instructor who has experience working with deaf and hard of hearing individuals, as well as clinical experience in mental health and substance abuse. A DVD is in production to supplement the curriculum that will feature three case scenarios and contain interactive features.
Ready to Practice (RTP) is a new series of innovative tools for the active practitioner. The purpose of the RTP series is to make implementation of EBPs easier and improve their fidelity in practice. The first in the series targets Motivational Interviewing. The Using Readiness Rulers RTP includes the Mid-Atlantic ATTC readiness ruler (previously developed ancillary product); two video demonstrations (adult and adolescent) using the ruler; and the transcripts for the sessions. Feedback from pilot test participants emphasized making the packaging more appealing and reported that the tools would be helpful in overcoming the “I don’t have the time to learn and do this” barrier to implementation.
