PRAIRIELANDS: Prairielands ATTC has focused on several projects over the last six months that will continue into the fall semester.  Unfortunately, due to the flood situation in two of our five states we have had to lengthen the timelines on a few of these projects which are:

  • Prairielands ATTC offered the first Training-of-Trainer (TOT) event in Minneapolis in May to 18 trainees in preparation for the roll-out of the new Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) curriculum based on the CSAT publication, a Provider’s Guide to the Treatment of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered Individuals with Substance Use Disorders. PATTC will offer two to three more TOTs on this curriculum in different parts of the US over the next 12 months to facilitate change in providers’ treatment of LGBT clients with substance use disorders.
  • Prairielands ATTC projects on problem gambling co-occurring with substance use disorders include the following: a) PATTC is in the midst of collecting data for our Problem Gambling Workforce Development Study; most states in the country are included in this study. Its results will guide us in further curriculum development. b) PATTC is also preparing for the 5th annual Midwest Conference on Problem Gambling and Substance Abuse, to be held in St. Louis August 13th through 15th.
  • Prairielands ATTC is also preparing for its 4th annual symposium on addiction in the fall of 2008. This time the focus will be on combined treatment of nicotine addiction and other substance use disorders.
