NORTHWEST FRONTIER: The Northwest Frontier has developed a one-day training entitled Selecting and Implementing Evidence-Based Practices. This training is designed for administrators and clinical supervisors and presents them with practical strategies for selecting, implementing, and sustaining evidence-based practices. The training also explores the issues of fidelity and adaptations of evidence-based practices.
Some of the topic areas covered during this training include: defining evidence-based practices, accessing evidence-based practice resources, assessing services to select an evidence-based program that is the “right-fit” for an agency, effective practices for successful implementation of evidence-based practices, and maintaining and measuring fidelity.

new item CENTRAL EAST: The ATTC Clinical Supervision Work Group is currently involved in a multi-site collaboration to develop a curriculum based on TAP 21-A. A subgroup has been formed to develop the curricula and includes representatives from Central East, New England, Northeast, Northwest Frontier, and Southern Coast ATTCs.

new item CENTRAL EAST: The Danya Institute and Central East will continue to support three ongoing co-occurring competent training programs in the District of Columbia during 2008. These concurrent programs, coordinated in conjunction with the DC Department of Mental Health, comprise classes meeting once or twice a month, giving each participant a total of 81 hours of training while preparing them to work in co-occurring treatment environments.

05/05/2008 GREAT LAKES: Four new articles on Peer Recovery Support Services are posted on the main page of the Great Lakes web site, www.glattc.org. Underwritten by the Philadelphia Department of Behavioral Health and Mental Retardation Services, the articles were written by William L. White and a variety of co-authors. Topics include role differentiation, ethical issues, gender-specific recovery support services, and the birth of the NET Consumer Council. These articles will be combined with others to make up a peer support services monograph later this year.

This CEU program is based on a training module designed by the Mid-America Addition Technology Transfer Center in conjunction with Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). The training will be presented in each of the five DMHDDAD regions and CEU’s will be available for certified and licensed professionals at no cost. These trainings will be held through-out the southeast region beginning March12, 2008 – June 2008, in which SATTC will evaluate these trainings.

05/05/2008 PACIFIC SOUTHWEST: On May 19, 2008 in Fresno, CA, the PSATTC, in partnership with UCLA Integrated Substance Abuse Programs, the Pacific Region and CA/AZ Node of the NIDA Clinical Trials Network, the California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs, the Countywide Alcohol and Drug Program Administrators’ Association of California, Fresno County Behavioral Health Department, and MedMark will present the third in a series of three training sessions entitled the California Addiction Training and Education Series: Improving Client Engagement and Retention in Treatment. The training will be conducted by Dr. Steve Gallon (NFATTC) and Holly McCravey (Didi Hirsch Community Mental Health Center, Via Avanta). Following the three daylong training sessions, participants will be invited to take part in six months of follow-up coaching conference calls to facilitate ongoing learning and one-on-one contact with the lead trainer. The conference will be held June 15-19 at the Wyndam Hotel in Peachtree City, GA. SATTC will sponsor Dr. Nicholas Taylor, who will be presenting on Substance Abuse Evidence Based Treatment Practices for drug courts which would include CBT.

new item MID-AMERICA: Mid-America ATTC provided a one-day training of trainers on the curriculum, Foundations of Substance Use, Abuse and Dependence, for the Missouri COSIG project. On May 2, 2008, four mental health counselors and the clinical director from the Ozarks Medical Center-Behavioral Health Unit located in West Plains, Missouri, were trained to deliver the training in either a one-day and two-day format. In June 2008 these five staff members will provide a training on the curriculum for the entire Ozarks Medical Center-Behavioral Health staff. This training focuses on participants’ life experience and how those experiences have shaped attitudes, beliefs and perceptions toward alcohol and other drugs. The training format includes short lectures, interactive activities, group discussion, videos and panel presentations. new item SOUTHEAST: Southeast ATTC is initiating a phone conference on May 23rd with the SC HIV/AIDS Clinical Training Center. Their goal is to improve the quality of care and access to care of patients living with HIV/AIDS through the provision of high quality professional education and training to health care providers in South Carolina. The South Carolina HIV/AIDS Clinical Training Center is a Local Performance Site for the Southeast AIDS Training and Education Center (SEATEC). We will be discussing collaboration opportunities.
new item SOUTHEAST: The Faces and Voices of Recovery Conference will be held in Columbia, SC on May 24th. Southeast ATTC is scheduled to exhibit at this event. The purpose of the grant is to attract additional members to recovery advocacy activities, offer training in recovery treatment, provide a forum for information exchange and networking across the state, and to celebrate the power and proof of long-term recovery with education and fellowship.

new item CARIBBEAN BASIN: Technical Assistance in Motivational Interviewing to Clinical Supervisors was conducted in San Juan on May 15-16, 2008 and was delivered by Angelita Colon, PhD. The purpose of this training is to transfer to communities that assist people with addiction in psychoactive substances, treatment models that have demonstrated, trough scientific evidence, effectiveness in alcohol and drugs treatment. new item CENTRAL EAST: Central East has co-sponsored a long term MIA: STEP implementation initiative with the Mid-Atlantic Node at 6 Baltimore CTN program sites. The initiative began in June, 2007 with the training of all clinical staff in MI, continued with the training of senior clinical staff in MIA: STEP, and now will train all clinical supervisors in MIA: STEP. Central East is in the process of planning similar training within the Central East region around other blending initiatives.
new item MID-AMERICA: Mid-America ATTC provided a 90-minute workshop on Promoting Awareness of Motivational Incentives: An Overview of Motivational Incentives Featuring the Fishbowl Method, at the Annual Missouri Spring Training Institute. The workshop was held on May 15, 2008, at Osage Beach, Missouri. Mid-America ATTC Director Pat Stilen and Associate Director Jan Wrolstad co-facilitated the workshop. Over 80 participants attended. new item PACIFIC SOUTHWEST: On July 14-18, 2008 in Sedona, AZ, the PSATTC will present a Motivational Interviewing Academy in conjunction with its 9th Annual Summer Institute. The week-long training will focus on applying knowledge as participants follow up a daylong immersion with breakout sessions throughout the week, as students work directly with Robert Rhode, Ph.D., a leading Arizona instructor who trained at the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers.
