NATIONAL OFFICE: As you are all aware, The National Office has been putting together a new, comprehensive database.  This database will take the place of the NIDA dissemination tracking system and the Semi-Annual Report Activities database (both of which have been located on the iNSiDER).  This database will collect a wide variety of information about our events and activities.  Some of the information collected will be used to run quarterly reports for NIDA, some of it will be used to run bi-annual reports for CSAT, some of it will be used by the National Evaluation Team.  In addition, you will have the opportunity to advertise events of your choosing on a web calendar in your Regional Center’s section of the new Network web site.  This database will also collect information to populate that calendar.
Our goal has been to make this new database a “one stop shop” for all of your data entry related to ATTC events and activities (except GPRA).
Due to the complexity of the database, we feel it is important to provide training on how to use it.  The National Office will host three PowerPoint-assisted teleconference trainings next week as follows:

  • Tuesday, April 1 – 1:30 pm CENTRAL -OR-
  • Wednesday, April 2 – 11:00 am CENTRAL -OR-
  • Friday, April 4 – 1:30 pm CENTRAL

Conference Call #: 1-888-387-8686, Code #: 4821201
Web site for the PowerPoint: http://www.nattc.org/temp/call.htm
Each teleconference will be exactly the same.  We are providing three separate times for the trainings in the hope that each Regional Center will find at least one of the times convenient to participate.  We strongly recommend that each Center has at least one staff member participate in one of the trainings.
Topics covered on the call will include:
(a)     entering data
(b)     term definitions and examples
(c)     audience for each data point
(d)     hints about where to find the information in order to enter it in the database.
Please watch your email for additional information and resources regarding this teleconference.

MID-AMERICA: Mid-America ATTC has developed a 2008 version of the Alcohol Awareness Month (April) faith community bulletin insert.  This product can be easily downloaded and used by churches, temples and mosques for their Sunday/Sabbath-day bulletins, newsletters or bulletin boards.  The 5½" X 8½" double-sided informational sheet provides:

  • information about the disease of alcoholism
  • effectiveness of evidence-based treatment in bringing about recovery
  • what persons can do to become more informed about this disease
  • what persons can do to help others suffering from alcohol addiction
  • what faith communities can do to provide support services

The bulletin insert in pdf is available in both color and black & white.  Both the color and B&W versions can be downloaded from the Mid-America ATTC Web site at: http://www.mattc.org/information/april/index.html .  Printing instructions are provided on the website and below.  Other ATTCs may post these bulletin inserts on their Web sites and share with faith community groups in their regions.
Directions for printing:  This faith and alcohol awareness bulletin insert is designed as a two-sided 5.5”w X 8.5”h sheet.  To accommodate the typical office printer, the pdf file has been set up to print 2 inserts per 8.5” X 11” sheet.  Print page one first, then flip the paper according to your printer specifications in order to print page two.  (Consider doing a test print first to be sure it prints correctly.)  Once printed, a paper cutter can be used to cut the 8.5” X 11” sheets in half down the middle to create the 5.5”w X 8.5”h inserts.
Mid-America ATTC is also providing these documents in the InDesign program so each regional ATTC can insert its own ATTC logo if desired.  Please let Jan Wrolstad know if you would like InDesign versions and these will be sent to you in a zipped file.  In order to open and work with the product, InDesign software must be installed on a computer. For more information about these inserts, contact Jan Wrolstad, 816.482.1150

03/17/2008 MID ATLANTIC: The Mid-Atlantic ATTC, in collaboration with Project TREAT (Virginia's CSAT funded SAC grant) launched Ask the Expert in February, 2008. Susan Pauley, Training Coordinator for Project TREAT worked with Mark Whitesides to design a page within the Mid-Atlantic ATTC's adolescent web section to provide visitors to the site an opportunity to learn more about evidence based and best practices for serving adolescents with substance use and co-occurring disorders. The site is interactive. A specific model or intervention is highlighted every 4 to 8 weeks. Experts and/or developers of each model submit a summary describing the practice including links to more detailed information within the summary. Readers can then post questions to the identified expert on a
blog which is monitored by Ms. Pauley. The Experts respond to the questions at least weekly. The information highlighted as well as the questions and answers on the blog will then be archived and linked to the Ask the Expert page in order for future visitors to review the information about highlighted models.
