CARIBBEAN BASIN: The Caribbean Basin & Hispanic
ATTC is working in collaboration with the recent created
The Association of Addiction Professional of Puerto Rico
(APAPR) to continue to help the workforce
development, essential to the field of the addiction
disorder prevention and treatment services. This is an
initiative of graduates of the Masters Degree in Health
Science in Substance Abuse Counseling of the Universidad
Central del Caribe, developed under the first funded period
of the ATTCs. APAPR’s main objective is to promote the best
drug treatment services for patients, families and
communities. Also, to strengthen the counselor’s
professional identity and influence public policy to assure
good services based on evidence-based practices. The Association will be an affiliate of NAADAC, The Association for Addiction Professionals. The CBHATTC will co-sponsor, with the Association and NAADAC, a one-day seminar: NAADAC’s 2007 Life-Long Learning Series Pharmacotherapy: Integrating New Tools into Practice on January 26, 2008. Cynthia Moreno Tuohy, NCAC II, CCDC II, SAP, executive Director of NAADAC and former Executive Director for the Danya Institute and Project Officer of the Central East Addiction Technology Transfer Center (CEATTC) and Shirley Beckett Mikell, NCAC II, SAP, Deputy Director of NAADAC will be the trainers for this event. The seminar’s goal is to bring together multidisciplinary addiction professionals to discuss approved pharmacotherapy for alcohol dependence, focus on overcoming treatment obstacles, and apply strategies to match patients to the most appropriate therapy and to motivate patients in treatment. Also, this activity has as main purpose to introduce and invite addiction service providers of different professions to become members of the Association. This activity will be held at the Bayamon Regional Hospital conference room in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. |
