Education:
- Associate's degree
in human services or related field from an approved school -
OR -
- 90 quarter or 60
semester college credits in courses from an approved school --
45 quarter or 30 semester credits must be in courses relating
to the chemical dependency profession
- 4 clock hours AIDS
education
Experience:
- 2,500 hours supervised
chemical dependency counseling - Associates degree -OR-
- 2,000 hours supervised
chemical dependency counseling - Bachelors degree in human services
or related field from an approved school -OR-
- 1,500 hours supervised
chemical dependency counseling - Master/Doctoral degree in human
services or related field from an approved school -OR-
- 1,500 hours supervised
chemical dependency counseling - licensed as advanced registered
nurse practitioners under chapter 18.79 RCW -OR-
- 1,500 hours supervised
chemical dependency counseling - licensed as a psychologist under
chapter 18.83 RCW
- Total of 850
hours of experience are designated to the following:
- 200 hours - clinical
evaluation; 100 hours must be face-to-face patient contact
- 600 hours - face-to-face
counseling to include: Individual counseling; group counseling;
counseling family, couples, and significant others
- 50 hours - discussion
of professional and ethical responsibilities
- Rest of hours -
divided among competencies (WAC 246-811-047(2)(d) through (i)
as determined by supervisor
- NAADAC Exam for
Addiction Counselors or IC&RC Certified Addiction Counselor Level
II or higher exam
- A person certified
by NAADAC or IC&RC is considered to have met all of the
experience requirements, the 45 quarter or 30 semester credit
educational requirements, and the exam requirement.
Renewal: Every 2 years, with 28 hours of
continuing education.
