Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor
Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS):
-
Bachelors degree in a Human Services
related field from an accredited institution (Copy of degree and transcript
must be attached to application. Subject to Board approval)

180 hours pre-approved coursework.
Appropriate college credit can be used toward CPS coursework. College
courses will be approved at the Boards discretion. All other CPS
coursework must have prior approval from the Certification Board.

2 years (4,000 hours) in at least 1 of the
6 domains of Prevention. This requirement also contains a 120 hours
practicum completed within 2 years of the date of application.

IC&RC Prevention Written Exam
Associate Prevention Specialist (APS):
-
1 year (2,000 hours) prevention experience
in at least 1 of the 6 domains of prevention
-
50 hours prevention coursework in any of
the 6 Domains within the last 4 years of submission of application
-
50 hours of alcohol/drug coursework within
the last 4 years of submission of application
-
Recertification - every 2 years from
date of initial issue date. 50 hours continued prevention education required,
along with nonrefundable recertification fee.
Chemical Dependency Associate (CDA):
-
2,000 hours work experience in pre-approved
facility
-
200 hours pre-approved supervised practicum
provided by an LCADC or CCS
-
72 hours educational training

Recertification - every two years. 40
hour addiction related continuing education required. Hours must fall
within the 2 year period between recertifications.
Criminal Justice Counselor (CJC):
The CJC credential is intended for use within the criminal justice field.
It is not a clinical practice credential and cannot substitute for the CADC in
State regulations. Private Practice counselors must have a license
approved by the Division of Consumer Affairs to provide independent counseling.
Track I:

2 years full time employment (4,000 hours)
in a clinical counseling position where 50% of the caseload is criminal
justice specific

Must have a CADC

100 hours supervised practical training in
6 domains of criminal justice
Track II:

2 years full time employment (4,000 hours)
in a clinical counseling position where 100% of the caseload is criminal
justice specific

Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS):
Track I

Track One requires a CADC. Applicant
must have completed at least 1 recertification for the CADC.

5 years experience working in the field of
chemical dependency. These 5 years are to be immediately prior to the
date of application

3 years clinical supervisory experience in
the field of chemical dependency within 10 years immediately prior to the date
of application.

30 hours clinical supervisory course work
(previously approved by the Certification Board) within 10 years immediately
prior to the date of application. In-service training will not be
accepted.

counseling related coursework.

3 years clinical supervisory experience in
the field of chemical dependency within 10 years immediately prior to the date
of application.

30 hours clinical supervisory course work
(previously approved by the Certification Board) within 10 years immediately
prior to the date of application. In-service training will not be
accepted. Formal education may be accepted if the course descriptions
are submitted and clearly indicate supervisory training.

60 hours alcohol and/or drug education
within 10 years immediately prior to date of application.

Please note: as of 1/1/1999, all
originals of certificates must be submitted with the application, as well as a
set of photocopies and a self-addressed, stamped envelope. Once the review
has been completed, the originals will be returned. If the SASE is not
included, the originals will not be returned.
Recertification: 30 hours clinical supervisor or alcohol and drug
counseling related continuing education every 2 years
Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist (CTTS):
The CTTS is not an independent clinical practice credential and should only
be used for work within health care or counseling settings. Private
practice counselors must have a license approved by the Division of consumer
Affairs to provide independent counseling.

Addiction and Disability Specialist (ADS):
The ADS credential is intended for use by those working within an addiction
or disability setting. It is not a clinical practice credential and cannot
substitute for the CADC or CMS in State regulations. Private practice
counselors must have a license approved by the Division of Consumer Affairs to
provide independent counseling.

4,000 hours work experience in an
organization that primarily serves people with the disabilities listed in the
educational coursework. Experience must be in 1 of the following areas:
Counseling, Supervisory, Special Education or Advocacy. This experience
must be in a disability specific position, including alcohol and drug
counseling.

Pre-Approved 100 hour supervised practicum
in the 5 CADC counseling domains.

Bachelors in Human Services related field

CADC or LCADC
36 hours pre-approved disability training
OR
Track 2:
No CADC
36 hours pre-approved disability training
54 hours pre-approved alcohol and drug counseling coursework

Certified Perinatal Addiction Specialist (CPAS):

2 years full time experience (4,000 hours)
where 50% of the caseload is working with women of childbearing age and/or
their children.
Work experience must be obtained working in 1 of the following fields:
Social Work
Addiction Counseling
Child Abuse Prevention
Maternal Child Health
Mental Health
Drug Courts/TASC
Psychology
DYFS
Domestic Violence
Family Treatment
Case Worker
Nursing

Bachelors degree or RN in Human Services
or Health related field. Degree must consist of 120 hours education.
Official transcript must show a minimum of 20 hours in any one of the
following areas:
Criminal Justice
Psychology
Social Work
Social/Political Science
Nursing
Biology
Anatomy and Physiology
Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor
Education in Childhood Development/Special Education

hours continuing education in the perinatal addiction related coursework.
