Requirements:

Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC):

  • 6,000 hours substance abuse counseling and other substance abuse related duties (intakes, referrals, record keeping). Hours accumulated after 1/1/98 must be under the supervision of a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor. Work experience must have been obtained within 8 years preceding date of application
  • 270 hours training and education. Minimum of 24 hours of total must have been obtained within past 12 months. 6 hours training in ethics and 6 hours in HIV/AIDS is also required as part of 270 hours. Of the remaining 258 clock hours training and education, 55 must be in categories 1, 2,14, 16, 17 or 18 of the competency categories.
  • 300 hours clinical supervised practical training
  • Passing of written IC & RC exam
  • Passing of oral IC& RC exam

Licensed Clinical Supervisor (LCS):

  • Licensure as an alcohol and drug counselor
  • 10,000 hours as an AODA counselor
  • 4,000 hours experience as a clinical supervisor in alcohol and drug abuse specialty
  • 200 hours of face-to-face clinical supervision
  • 30 hours training in clinical supervision covering assessment, evaluation, counselor development, management, administration, and professional responsibility
  • Passing of written IC & RC exam for clinical supervisors

Renewal:

  • Every 24 months after initial licensure upon payment of fee
  • LADC: 48 hours of approved continuing education in the 24 months subsequent to the date of licensure and later relicensure
  • LCS: 6 hours of training on clinical supervision which may be incorporated into the hours needed for ADC relicensing
