Requirements:

Certified Prevention Professional (CPP):

  • Bachelors degree
  • 2,000 hours prevention work experience
  • 150 hours direct supervision
  • 150 hours training:
    100 prevention specific
    50 ATOD specific (Ethics training; 6 hours/AIDS/HIV training - 4 hours)
  • ICRC/AODA certification prevention professional written exam

Recertification: Every 2 years with 60 contact hours of training or 6 CEUs

Prevention Associate:

  • Bachelors degree
  • 1,000 hours in human services field
  • Involvement in a human service coalition
  • 45 hours ATOD specific training:
    ATOD early identification or screening - 3 hours
    Psychopharmacology - 3 hours
    ATOD & Violence - 3 hours
    Impact of ATOD on Systems - 3 hours
    Strategies for Working with Target Population - 6 hours
    Ethics - 6 hours
    Technology of What is Prevention - 4 hours
    HIV/AIDS - 4 hours
    12 hours face-to-face consultation with a CPP

The Prevention Associate is designated for a two-year period. To qualify for renewal, applicants must earn 20 hours of ATOD prevention specific training and submit the appropriate forms.
