GUIDELINES
FOR LEVELS OF ADDICTION COUNSELOR CERTIFICATION
(NOTE: ALL
APPLICANTS MUST FIRST COMPLETE KAAP
MEMBERSHIP
APPLICATION THROUGH NAADAC AND PAY MEMBERSHIP DUES)
CADC I –
Applicants must meet the following criteria:

Documentation of High School
diploma or GED.
-
Obtained AAPS Credential or its
equivalent.
-
Ongoing documentation of 60 clock
hours every two years of approved education.
-
Pass a KAAP-approved written
examination.
CADC II –
Counselor must meet the following requirements for one of two tracks:
-
Successful completion of CADC I
requirements
-
Passage of KAAP-approved ORAL
test
-
Have three years of paid,
supervised work experience in a recognized substance abuse treatment and
rehabilitation program with job duties assisting clients in the recovery
process; and
-
Have attained a minimum of 270
CEUs of counselor education appropriate to the A/D treatment field.
OR
-
Hold a
bachelor’s degree in a health related field, which includes 18 credit hours
of alcoholism/drug addiction counseling
-
Passage of KAAP-approved
oral and written testing; and
-
Documentation
of 500 hours of practicum in a recognized A/D facility.
CADC III –
Counselors must:
-
Successful completion of CADC II
requirements;
-
Be either a Registered Alcohol
and Other Drug Abuse Counselor (RAODAC) or eligible for registration with
Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board (BSRB)
-
Successful completion of KAAP-approved
written test
-
Documentation of 500 hours of
practicum
-
Have five (5) years of employment
in the A/D field; and
-
Hold a bachelor’s degree in a
health-related field, including 18 hours of A/D addiction studies.

$75.00 application processing fee
The KAAP
Credentials Committee regularly meets on the first Friday of the month to review
applications. If this schedule conflicts with a holiday, the committee will meet
later in the month or carry their work over until the next month, depending upon
the number of applications they have to review. All documentation must be
received by the Thursday before the meeting.
Gambling
Counselor Certification & Reciprocity information will be posted as soon as it
becomes available
