Requirements:

FACT Associate Level I (Community Based Treatment):

  • 480 hours supervised internship with corrections clients
  • 2,080 hours supervised work experience in a Substance Abuse Treatment Setting with Corrections Clients
  • 3 courses (135 hours) with an emphasis on addictions theory and practice, substance abuse treatment models and applications, and ethics from a CAADE accredited College

    Note: Coursework from other academic institutions (i.e. other college or university classes, CAARR Institute, etc.) may be used to meet this competency only if the title of the course clearly states the focus to be substance abuse and covers the above topics. It is the responsibility of the applicant to submit a course description, outline, and official transcripts to be considered.
  • 18 hours UCSD Addiction Training Center continuing care cross training with emphasis on criminality and criminal justice
  • Competency exam

FACT Associate Level I (Prison Based Treatment):

  • 480 hours supervised internship with corrections population
  • 2,080 hours supervised work experience in a California Department of Corrections setting
  • 90 hours UCSD Addiction Training Center Development Series:
    - Addiction Theories, Drugs of Abuse, Treatment Models, Criminality and Ethics (24 hours)
    - Therapeutic Community Immersion and Criminality (30 hours)
    - Group skills (18 hours)
    - Cognitive Behavioral Treatment Management Skills (18 hours)
  • 30 hours UCSD Addiction Training Center Cross Training
  • Competency exam

  3. Correctional Environment Rules and Regulations
  4. Correctional Environment Classification System
  5. Correctional Environment Interpersonal Relations Requirements

FACT Associate Level II:

  • Completion of a California Correctional Officer Academy (documentation of attendance and content)
  • A correctional training experience in a non-California Academy (documentation of attendance and content)
  • 1 year work experience in a California Department of Corrections setting
  • CDC cross training participation and signed statement by facility captain
  • CDC cross training participation and signed statement by director of clinical treatment
  • College or university class with emphasis on addictions theory and practice (documentation of attendance and content)
  • Addictions-specific experience documented by facility captain and 8-hour inservice or orientation on addictions theory and practice (SA 101, 102 A&B will qualify)
  • Addictions-specific experience documented by director of clinical treatment and 8-hour inservice or orientation on addictions theory and practice (SA 101,102 A&B will qualify)
  • College or university class with emphasis on substance abuse treatment models and applications (documentation of attendance and content) -OR-
  • Addictions-specific experience documented by facility captain and 8-hour inservice or orientation on treatment models/applications (SA 101, 102 A&B will qualify)
  • Addictions-specific experience documented by director of clinical treatment and 8-hour inservice or orientation on treatment models/applications (SA 101, 102 A&B will qualify) -OR-
  • Documentation of attendance and content of a 30-contact-hour class
  • CDC inservice or orientation or training on drugs, institutional policy and procedure
  • CDC inservice or orientation or training on inmate/staff relations
  • 6 months of treatment experience
  • Certification or eligibility for CAADAC, CAADE, or other national or state certification (California Therapeutic Communities or Therapeutic Communities of America)
  • College or university class with emphasis on criminology theory (documentation of attendance and content)
  • 8-hour inservice or orientation on criminology theory (Workforce Development Academy will qualify)
  • Continuing education course on theories of criminology (submit syllabus for approval)
