Certified Alcoholism and Other Drug Addictions Recovery Specialist
(CAS):
Note: CAS Certification does
not qualify a person to engage in private practice. Certification
recognizes a persons ability to perform in a community alcohol/drug
program.
Must be over 18
years of age
Presently employed
or serving in a volunteer capacity in a social model program,
or must have been employed or serving in a volunteer capacity
in a social model program within the last full year prior to
the filing date
If applicant is an alcoholic or addict,
must have 1 year of continuous sobriety
Minimum of 2,080
hours work experience within 3 years in a social model alcohol
or other drug recovery program. This work service requirement
can be either direct or indirect program functions as paid or
volunteer service
Provide a written
self-assessment
Sign Code of Ethics
Demonstrate by
oral interview before a 3 peer panel ones understanding of and
ability to work in a community social model setting and to meet
the minimum standards as defined in the Scope of Practice
Completed the 105
hours of CAARR Institute Training or its equivalent and passed
the written comprehensive CAS examination*
Minimum of 150
hours of closely supervised on-the-job training (practicum) in
direct alcohol and or other drug recovery services in a social
model setting
Renewal requirements:
30 hours of documented
continuing education in alcohol or drug studies
Payment of Annual
Certification dues

* In order
to qualify for CAS without completing the CAARR Institute, applicant
must have a minimum of 5 years full time employment in a Social
Model alcoholism or drug addiction recovery program within last
10 years.
Certified
Recovery Program Manager (CRPM):
Completion of 36
hour CAARR Institute Management Training course*
3 years full time
experience in alcohol and/or other drug recovery programs
During 2 of the
3 years, applicants employment must have included duties in
management, supervision or administration
1 of the 2 years
of management, supervision, or administrative duties must fall
within the past 2 years
Typewritten self-evaluation
identifying philosophy of management, and experience with differing
styles of management
Written vision
of applicants future in recovery field
Presentation before
a panel of experienced recovery program managers
* Requirement
for completion of CAARR Institute Management Training Course may
be waived with validation of 5 years full time management, supervisory,
or administrative experience in the recovery field within past
7 years. If candidate has not completed training course, additional
years of experience must be validated.
