Non-Reciprocal Level

Associate Addictions Professional (AAP):

  • 1 year experience (2,000 hours direct counseling experience)
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 150 hours Clinical Supervision; supervision must be in Twelve Core Functions.
  • 150 hours education/training; 65 hours in Counseling education and 85 hours in Addictions education
  • Evaluations from supervisor(s) and 3 colleague evaluations
  • 4 hours HIV/AIDS and 6 hours Ethics education
  • Passage of the state written exam
  • Signed Code of Ethics and Releases

Reciprocal Levels

Alabama Certified Addictions Counselor (ACAP):

  • 3 years experience (6,000 hours) direct counseling experience. A Masters Degree will substitute for 2 years (4,000 hours) experience; Bachelors Degree substitutes for one year (2,000 hours).
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 300 hours clinical supervision in Twelve Core Functions
  • 270 hours education/training/workshops related to 12 Core Functions
  • Evaluations from supervisor(s) and 3 colleague evaluations
  • 4 hours HIV/AIDS education
  • 6 hours Ethics education
  • Passage of ICRC written exam
  • Submission of a written case presentation
  • Passage of the oral exam
  • Signed Code of Ethics and Releases

Certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Professional (CADP):

  • 300 hours clinical supervision in Twelve Core Functions
  • 270 hours education/training/workshops related to 12 Core Functions
  • Masters degree in a Social Services field
  • Evaluations from supervisor(s) and 3 colleague evaluations
  • 6 hours Ethics education
  • Passage of ICRC written exam
  • Submission of a written case presentation
  • Passage of the oral exam
  • Signed Code of Ethics and Releases

The Twelve Core Functions of a Counselor:

Screening, Intake, Orientation, Assessment, Treatment Planning, Counseling, Case Management, Crisis Intervention, Client Education, Referral, Report and Record Keeping, Client Consultation with Other Professionals.

Certified Clinical Supervision Certification (CCS):

  • Must be certified on a AODA reciprocal level (CADP)
  • Verification of 5 years (10,000 hours) of counseling experience as an AODA counselor
  • Verification of 2 years (4,000 hours) of clinical supervisory experience in the AODA field. These 2 years may be included in the 5 years of counseling experience and must include the provision of 200 contact hours of face-to-face clinical supervision.
  • Verification of 30 hours of didactic training in clinical supervision. This must include training in each of the following areas: (1)Assessment (2)Diagnostic Impression (3)Counselor Development (4)Management/Administration (5)Training of Counselors (6)Program Development and (7)Professional Conduct.
  • Submission of 3 references from individuals familiar with the applicants work as clinical supervisor, one of whom must have supervised the candidates clinical supervision.
  • Masters Degree in a social service or related field from an accredited college
  • Passing of a written exam approved by ICRC
  • Certification will be designated as a Certified Clinical Supervision (CCS) and will replace the CADP for persons meeting the CCS certification requirements
  • There will be a $100 fee for the initial certification for persons currently certified as CADP (in good standing). All other applicants will have to pay the CADP certification fee and complete the CADP certification process.

Criminal Justice Addictions Professional

 

There are two (2) levels of Non-Reciprocal Criminal Justice Addictions Certification:

 

  • Certified Criminal Justice Addictions Specialist (CCJAS)

  • Certified Criminal Justice Addictions Professional (CCJAP)

 

Minimum Criteria for CCJAS:

 

  1. One year of direct service employment with substance abusing/dependant client/offenders (2,000 hours)

  2. 150 hours of supervised practical experience in the Fifteen Core Functions

  3. 150 hours of education/workshops as follows: 35 hours in counseling, 50 hours in addictions, 65 hours in Criminal Justice.

  4. Required education:  Four (4) hours of AIDS/HIV education; Six (6) hours of Ethics

 

Minimum Criteria for CCJAP:

 

  1. Three years of direct service employment with substance abusing/dependant  Client offenders (6,000) hours

  2. 300 hours of clinical supervision in the Fifteen Core Functions

  3. 300 contact hours of education/workshops as follows:

    • 100 hours in addictions education;

    • 130 hours in criminal justice education and

    • 100 hours in counseling education.

  4. Bachelor’s Degree in related field.

  5. Passage of a state written examination

  6. Required education:  Six hours of Ethics and four hours of AIDS/HIV education.

 

Note:  Each semester hours = 15 contact hours; each quarter hour = 10 contact hours

 

Fifteen Core functions:  Offender Screening, Offender Intake, Offender Assessment, Treatment Planning, Case Planning, Offender Orientation, Crisis Intervention, Consultation, System Interface, Participant Education, Reports/Record Keeping, Written Communication, Case Review/ Evaluation, Case Management, Offender Monitoring.

 

Certified Criminal Justice Professional (CCJP)

IC&RC Reciprocal Level

 

Minimum Criteria for CCJP:

 

Total minimum number of hours required in providing direct services (Supervised Intervention, Prevention Education, Case Management, Counseling and Related Experiences) with substance abusing/dependent client/offenders:

 

    • 6,000 with H.S. Diploma or GED

    • 5,000 with AA/AS or Certified AODA Counselor (Non IC&RC)

    • 4,000 with BA/BS or IC&RC Certified Reciprocal AODA Counselor

    • 2,000 with MA/MS or IC&RC Certified Clinical Supervisor

    • 1,000 with Certified Advanced AODA Counselor Credential or other Advanced Credential (NBCC, CRCC, NASW, MAC) or Educational Degree above Master’s Level

 

Total minimum number of hours of Supervised Practical Experience (This

Must be documented by the person who actually supervised you.  Must be supervised practical experience section.

 

·        250 hours with HS diploma or GED

·        150 hours with AA/AS or Certified AODA Counselor (Non-IC&RC)

·        100 hours with BA/BS or IC/RC Certified Reciprocal Level AODA Counselor

·        60 hours with MA/MS or IC&RC Certified Clinical Supervisor

·        0 hours with Certified Advanced AODA Counselor Credential or other Advanced Credential (NBCC, CRCC, NASW, MAC) or Educational Degree above Master’s Degree.

 

Education/ Workshops as follows:  270hours

 

·        Category I:     Education in Counseling - 70 hours

·        Category II:     Education in Addictions -100 hours

·        Category III:    Education in Criminal Justice -100 hours

 

Required Education (included in your 270 hours of Education/Workshops):

 

·        Four (4) hours of AIDS/HIV Education

·        Six (6) Hours of Ethics Education

 

Three (3) Colleague Evaluations & Supervisor’s Evaluations

 

Passage of the IC&RC Written Exam

Prevention Certification

Non-Reciprocal Level

Associate Prevention Specialist (APS):

  • 1 year (2,000 hours) experience in prevention or 240 direct supervision hours
  • 75 hours of substance abuse education/training; 50% must be in prevention
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Supervisor(s) evaluations and 2 colleague evaluations
  • Must be supervised by CPS or CPM
  • Signed "Code of Ethics" and "Releases"
  • 4 hours AIDS/HIV education
  • 6 hours Ethics education
  • 4 hours of Disruptive Audience Behavior education

Reciprocal Levels
