Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for Substance Use Disorders: A Nebraska Summit

Educational Event: With an array of effective FDA-approved medications now available for addressing substance use disorders, it is important to understand their use and effectiveness. The purpose of this Summit is to set the stage for exploring the role of MAT as a tool for recovery. Participants will learn about the neurobiology of substance use disorders, how medication-assisted treatment affects the brain and thus the behav¬ior of clients or patients who have substance use disorders, and how the use of naloxone is being used to reverse the effects of opioid overdose. A panel of persons utilizing medications to support their recovery from substance use disorders will be interviewed. State personnel will provide an update on Nebraska grant activities relating to NE's Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP), medication-assisted treatment (MAT), and pain management guidelines. The Summit will close with a panel discussion about Nebraska’s next steps in expanding the use of MAT.
